Pickleball Court Dimensions

To answer the question "How big is a pickleball court?", one must first understand that a pickleball court consists of two areas: the court and the apron.  The court measures 20' x 44' and is surrounded by an apron that typically brings the total size of the court to 30' wide x 60' long.  So, whether you are building a backyard pickleball court or trying to integrate pickleball into a multi-sport game court, you should plan on utilizing about 1,800 square feet of space.

The Court measures 20 feet wide and 44 feet long including 2 identical halves featuring two 10' wide x 15' long service areas and a 20' wide x 7' long non-volley zone called the "kitchen."

The Apron is the additional space surrounding the playing surface, beyond the baseline and sidelines.  While there is some flexibility in the size of the apron one chooses for their own court(s), the USA Pickleball Rule Book requires a minimum space of 30' x 60' with a 34' x 64'.  Not only is the ball served from the apron area, but it's necessary for player movement and safety.

Space for Multiple Sports

Starting with a space of 30' x 60' allows one to easily build a multi-sport game court in their backyard.  In fact, one of our most popular courts features a pickleball court and half court basketball court like the one shown here.  In this drawing, you can see how easily hockey goal creases could be added as well.
